insert class drawing
- 3D design has 3 components: dominant, subdominant, subordinate
- use axis to identify these three forms (dominant tends to have the longest axis
- Consider the relationship between volumes: wedging, cradling, and piercing
- Paper model should represent the structure and the axis, not the exterior
- Your model should distinguish your shell and mouse from all shells and mouses
- don’t worry about texture and carving marks — focus on form
Dominant vs subdominant vs. subordinate can change based on angle the form is being perceived. In this example, the rod is the dominant.
Progress 4/20/21
Before creating my first model, I decided to further observe my shell to understand the nuances of the curves and dips.
grid lines to understand proportions
took pictures to compare side by side

Thinking about the next step
Based on the feedback, I refined my clay shell and starting working with paper. I used cardstock, and because it was so flimsy, I planned on trying other papers.
